Prompt #1

Technology has had an unbelievable impact on society and education. From social networks and online dating sites, to the English language and job, technology has created major changes. In the past, educators have been preparing students for jobs that already exist. According to, "Did You Know",  educators are now preparing students for jobs that don't exist yet so they will be able to solve problems that we don't know are problems yet. This is something that has rapidly changed since technology entered daily lives. "Pay Attention" said that most children are digital learners, and there are a multitude of ways to use technology to engage them. Students expect to be able to create and share their work with others, so teachers must find a way to adapt their curriculum to accommodate technology. It is evident that technology plays a huge part in social and educational circles, and as time goes on, will have huge impacts on the way we teach and learn and live our lives.

  1. Hi Alec, it is really amazing what great an impact technology has on our society, education, and the entire world. I was surprised, too, to hear that educators are now preparing students for jobs that do not exist yet, and that video was from 2008! I typically call myself a visual learner but I also agree that I am a digital learner and I am sure that many others from my generation are, too. In what way(s) do you think that technology will have an impact on our own careers and the lives of our students? Do you think it will be positive, negative, or neither? Thank you for your thoughts on our first ETE 100 prompt.

  2. Alec,

I really liked the point you brought up with the "Did You Know" video. That statistic blew my mind when I watched the video. The technology that we have today allows us to rapidly develop existing technology into bigger and better things at an exponential rate! Because technology is such a huge part of our lives, its important to bring technology into the classroom so that students can learn how to adapt to it. The technology we use now will be as irrelevant in a few years. In order to really prepare students for the future, we need to equip them with the skills to use and learn from the technology that they have in their possession in any day and age.
